December Orlando and Cocoa Beach Fishing report

By January 6, 2014No Comments

The Cocoa Beach and Orlando fishing is getting hotter as the winter temperatures drop here on the Indian, Banana and Mosquito Lagoons.  Black drum have moved into our lagoon waters, and schools of up to three hundred fish can be found in the Cocoa Beach waters due east of the Orlando area right now. We are targeting the drum plus redfish, speckled trout, and even a few sheepshead with live shrimp.  The drum and redfish have been eating these baits when we present them in a free lined or weighted fashion.  If we can get small crabs to use for bait, the black drum have been going nuts for them.  When fishing for the speckled trout in the Cocoa Beach and Mosquito Lagoon waters, I’ve had my anglers using Saltwater Assassin 4-inch shrimp or sea shad tails.  The trout love to eat them and they are fun lures for my fishing client to use.  This type of fishing should only get better in the next month here in the Orlando area.

The offshore waters east of Orlando offered great fishing opportunities last month as well. Tripletail were staging off of the Cocoa Beach area. These are some of the best eating fish we have available here at this time of the year between Daytona Beach and Cocoa Beach.  When fishing for the tripletail we look for weeds or other floating debris that will hold baitfish, shrimp or crabs and “sight fish” for these Orlando area favorites.  Farther offshore from Cocoa Beach the fishing was good as well.  Cobia were holding in the 35 to 60-foot depths and also out on the reefs between Daytona Beach and Cocoa Beach last month.  I didn’t get a chance to get out for them as much as I wanted to, but we did manage to land quite a few in the 25 to 35 pound class while fishing just south of the Cocoa Beach fishing pier in the first few weeks of the month.

The weather is cool, but the bit is hot here in the Orlando, Daytona Beach, and Cocoa Beach area in January, so book your fishing adventure soon.  I’m ready to take you out for some fun fishing in the Orlando area.  Let’s go catch your next memory!!
