Fineline fishing charters update by captain Jim Ross

Fishing in the lagoons near Orlando and Cocoa Beach has slowed quite a bit this month due to hot water and brown algae blooms returning to some portions of our three lagoons.  We are still catching redfish and trout on most days but the numbers have gone down due to these two factors.  Fortunately this doesn’t have any effect on the near- shore waters in east central Florida though. Tarpon, shark, jack, king mackerel, bonito, and even a few cobia have been puling drag for us on most days.  Live baits are still the best way to catch them but large plugs and jigs are working when the fish get really fired up.  Snook are also possible on many days and they have been hitting live baits near jetties, piers, and other forms of structure.  Bull (Over sized) redfish are also possible on these types of trips.  Most of the time they have been hitting live or fresh dead baits but when they group up into schools they will hit top water plugs and jigs without hesitation.

The fall mullet run will begin around the second week of September and go through about the third week of October so if you want to get in on some exciting fast paced action give me a call (321-636-3728) or book your trip online today at finelinefishingcharters.com!

Until next time…Catch a memory!!!
